First impression of French Culture

Where to start.... Uhgg... I think the first thing that I did not anticipate was how the sizes of things can   Tell many things about a culture... In France compared to the U.S, things are really small like elevators, stairs, drinks, etc. in my opinion this has something to do with coziness, I think French value family a lot and  want to be closed to one another. That's my perception. The second thing that I love is how much they value history and their effort to preserve all those things that marked them at one point. I descouvered that everything has a history that it's worth to tell. I also love the care they put in decorating dishes and making things look best, I think that says a lot about what they want to portray.
One thing that I did not anticipate was how difficult it wil be to maintain a conversation for more than one minute and even order food. My second day, I decided to have thai food for lunch and I found a restaurant I thought it would be a good place to eat. I tried to order white rice and pork, but the Asian lady did not understand what I was saying and got mad at me because I could not understand what she was saying until one person from the restaurant who spoke English came to help me I couldn't order. It was frustrating and making me doubt of my French skills, which I thought were not that bad. But I think it is a learning process and failing is also part of it just make sure you get up soon and try again, before the fear paralyze you.
